Gateway Green FAQs
Does Gateway Green expire?
Gateway Green expires roughly 14-18 months after earned, always on July 31st.
Gateway Green earned during the fall program is typically distributed in November. This gives the Girl Scout roughly 19 months to use
Gateway Green earned during the cookie program is typically distributed in April/May, giving the Girl Scout roughly 14 months to use.
Why does it expire:
The purpose of Gateway Green is to give Girl Scouts the option to choose exactly how to experience Girl Scouts on their terms and for their individual experience. Without an expiration funds would go unused and potentially diminish the Girl Scout’s overall experience.
Exceptions: 8th grade Girl Scouts and above may request to save their Gateway Green for up to 3 membership years to pay for a larger experience.
Examples of possible qualifying experiences: GSUSA/Gateway or other Girl Scout Council Travel experiences, National Convention, or a Troop travel or large experience (over $500 in cost)
The travel experience must have dates scheduled confirmed by website etc. prior to approval. It cannot be a hypothetical trip.
Can Gateway Green be refunded or transferred?
Gateway Green is non-refundable and non-transferable. (be confident in dates, locations etc. of registrations and check Safety Activity Checkpoints and age-
appropriate activities and travel when determining opportunities for Girl Scouts.
Two Exceptions:
Gateway Council or Gateway Community cancels the event/program, the cost will be refunded back to Gateway Green.
Gateway Green can be transferred between girls living in the same household.
Can Gateway Green be placed on hold?
Gateway Green can be placed on hold
If a caregiver becomes financially delinquent with a balance to Girl Scouts of Gateway Council all Gateway Green rewards current and past (that are not expired) will go on hold. Once the balance is cleared, they are free to use any unexpired Gateway Green credits.
If any Gateway Green credits expire while the account is on hold these are no longer eligible for use.
This applies to graduating senior Girl Scout too and would not be eligible for use on Lifetime Graduating Senior membership.
*** If a Girl Scout is a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador and wants to use Gateway Green for something not listed above, please submit the Gateway Green Request first. The appropriate leadership team members will review and respond directly. Please give two-four weeks for this consideration.
