In celebration of Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, we're shining the spotlight on Gold Award Girl Scout Ryan, whose incredible sustainable project has brought a new level of engagement and education to Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park.
After taking a stroll through the park, Ryan recognized an opportunity to make the visitor experience more interactive and informative. Fueled by her passion for the environment, she researched the park’s wildlife and plant species and designed a dynamic scavenger hunt to enhance outdoor learning. Visitors can now explore Tarkiln Bayou while engaging with signs that guide them through a fun, educational scavenger hunt, learning about the park’s unique ecosystem along the way.
But Ryan didn’t stop there! She also built a bee hotel and replaced a bat house along the boardwalk, further supporting local wildlife. Her project includes hands-on activities and educational instructions for visitors to build their own bee hotels, fostering a deeper connection to nature and a sense of stewardship for our environment.
Ryan’s sustainable project has not only enhanced the park’s offerings, but also created a lasting impact by encouraging visitors to actively engage with and care for the natural world.
