Girl Scouts of Gateway Council hosted our inaugural Spring Volunteer Conference Saturday, April 20th from 9 am - 4:30 pm at Northside Community Center in Tallahassee.
We were thrilled to bring together volunteers from across our council for a day filled with inspiration, connection, and learning. This one-day event offered a unique opportunity for our dedicated volunteers to unite, share their experiences, and contribute to a common cause.
“Our volunteers are so critical to our organization's mission, and we hope this event will serve as an opportunity to connect, educate, and celebrate their hard work for years to come,” said conference organizer Sarah Worsowicz-Crooks.
Spring Volunteer Conference featured 20 engaging breakout sessions designed to appeal to Girl Scout Volunteers of all experience levels. These sessions were broadly grouped into four categories- Community Leadership Team Workshops, Professional Development Topics, Girl Sout Topics, and Program Level Topics. SVC also featured “365 Days Around the Girl Scout Sun- Reflecting on the First Year,” presented by CEO, Wendy Dordel, and “The Future is Girl Scout Green: A Look into the 2025 Membership Year,” presented by Chief Membership and Strategy Officer Allison Winans.
Volunteers enjoyed the opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers and staff from across our council and shop the Girl Scout store.
Laura Bogert, a GSGC volunteer of 1 year, who says her favorite part of being a Girl Scout volunteer is “having the opportunity to create core memories for the littles” very much enjoyed her experience at the conference. “I enjoyed the 75 minute sessions but I also enjoyed the long lunch where I got to meet the other leaders who have been doing it for less and more time.” She said she loved that it was “an interactive and fluid approach tom the broader topics.”
“I don’t know what to expect but hearing the 5 year plan shows the commitment to the girls. “The change management session is going to help me not only with the Girl Scouts but also personally and professionally,” said volunteer Paula Flug. She said the conference is a “great opportunity to learn more and expand your knowledge as to what is going on and is going to be happening,” and that the “Chik-fil-A box lunch was awesome!”
Leah Sanders, a first year troop leader says she “learned a lot and had a lot of fun,” and would recommend the STEM class to anyone. “It was a great time!” she said.
Stay tuned for updates on next year's event, as we continue to build on the success and momentum of this year's unforgettable experience!
