My Girl Scout Journey: How Girl Scouts Helped Me Discover My Passions
Let me introduce myself.
My name is Sophia. I am a changemaker. I am an entrepreneur. I am a leader. I am proud to be a Girl Scout!
More than 10 years ago I started my journey with Girl Scouts of Gateway Council. Growing up, my favorite Girl Scout activities included storytelling and learning about other cultures. These interests have translated into my current passion for connecting, empowering, and uplifting the people around me.
In July 2022, I earned my Girl Scout Gold Award based on this passion after initiating an organization that teaches young women to have healthy relationships with our bodies, our achievements, and ourselves. BEING - Inner Value, LLC allows female-identifying adolescents to embrace their inner worth. We teach young women to find balance rather than seeking external validation by placing an unhealthy emphasis on appearances, academic obligations, or peer relationships. By developing a network of individuals with shared experiences, BEING enhances young women’s ability to trust their intuition.
This project has really been an opportunity to apply everything I’ve learned in Girl Scouts: from cookie season money management to Summer Camp activity planning, to making an impact on my community.
I’m so excited to be part of the Media Team with Girl Scouts of Gateway Council where I’ll be sharing my experiences, both as a Girl Scout and as a girl. From school to scouting to society, let’s grow together!
