Meet Elizabeth Minchin, a 2025 Gold Award Girl Scout from Troop 82 in Gulf Breeze, Florida! Elizabeth’s Gold Award project, Music for the Elderly: Youth Involvement , tackled the issue of social isolation among seniors in assisted living facilities by using the power of music and community connection.
To bridge the gap between generations, Elizabeth created a program that connected local youth musicians with elderly residents through live performances. Her thoughtful approach encouraged emotional well-being and meaningful engagement for both groups.
Her project brought joy to over 20 seniors and gave nine student musicians a unique opportunity to share their talents while giving back to their community. Surveys and interviews confirmed that participants experienced positive emotional impacts, demonstrating the success and significance of her work.
“I created a program that would allow greater interactions with the elderly in my community and local youth members of the community,” Elizabeth said. “Along with this, my program provided music for the elderly that was performed by the high school musicians, which allowed the teenagers to give back to their community in a fun and rewarding way.”
Congratulations, Elizabeth! Your leadership, creativity, and compassion are making a lasting impact in Gulf Breeze and beyond.
